The Magical Escape of Roger's Gardens
Travel Essay Series
Nestled in the heart of Newport Beach, California, Roger’s Gardens is a hidden gem.
From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, just a typical garden center with a simple sign and a full parking lot.
But once you step inside, it feels like you’ve entered a botanical wonderland, with room after room of beautifully curated displays that are styled like they are about to have a magazine photoshoot.
I was introduced to Roger’s Gardens by one of my favorite people, and wow, it was an unforgettable experience.
As a highly visual person, I didn’t know where to look first.
Every corner was filled with layers of colors, textures, and themes that made me want to photograph everything.
Even though I’m not much of a gardener, I found myself completely mesmerized by the lush displays of plants, décor, and inspiration.
More Than Just a Nursery

When you hear "plant nursery," your mind might jump to the usual trappings: pots, soil, gardening tools, and a few rows of flowers. But Roger’s Gardens is so much more than that. It’s an experience.
Walking through this place, you realize it’s not just about plants; it’s about inspiration.
From garden accessories to vibrant floral arrangements, the entire space is a visual feast. Every display is carefully organized, yet there’s a sense of magic that makes it feel effortless and natural.
This is the type of place where you can wander for hours, gathering ideas for your home or just soaking up the beauty around you.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or someone like me who just appreciates beautiful spaces, this garden center will leave you full of creative energy.
A Shopping Delight

Even if gardening isn’t your thing, Roger’s Gardens is worth a visit for the home décor and unique gifts alone.
It’s one of those rare places where you’ll find things you didn’t even know you needed until you see them.
Whether you’re looking for hostess gifts, birthday presents, or even stocking stuffers, Roger’s has something for every occasion.
I couldn’t resist picking up a few treasures during my visit.
Plants as Inspiration

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, the plants at Roger’s Gardens are worth appreciating.
Higher-end nurseries like this one stock exotic, unusual varieties that you won’t find at your local garden store.
I spent a lot of time admiring the plants, snapping photos of unique flowers and interesting textures for future reference. If you’re creatively inclined like me, it’s a wonderful place to gather ideas.
Pro tip: When you take reference photos, focus on the details.
Capture the way sunlight hits colorful leaves or the texture of a flower’s center.
Look for little moments of beauty like a stack of terra cotta pots or a casually arranged set of garden tools.
These are the scenes that inspire home projects, sketches, or even just a little creative daydreaming.
A Magical Destination
Roger’s Gardens is more than a garden center, it’s a destination.
I could have easily sketched there, with outdoor seating, a charming restaurant, and plenty of spots to slow down and take it all in.
It’s the kind of place that invites you to linger, to explore every nook and cranny, and to leave feeling more inspired than when you arrived.
So, the next time you’re in Newport Beach, California, don’t just drive past this magical spot.
Take the time to stop in, wander the lush gardens, and let the creative energy spark something new in you.
Whether you’re a plant lover, a décor enthusiast, or someone simply in need of a visual escape, Roger’s Gardens is a must-visit.
