In this conversation, I sit down with Pat Daily to talk about the unexpected shape of a creative life.
Pat’s path moved from Air Force pilot to science fiction author, and we explore how that background in aviation and science continues to inform his storytelling. We talk about creative freedom inside constraints, about discipline, about revision, and about the long process of writing multiple books.
But more than anything, we talk about noticing. The habit of paying attention to nature, to ordinary objects, to the world right in front of you. Pat reflects on how inspiration doesn’t always arrive dramatically. Sometimes it’s already there, waiting to be seen.
This is a conversation about creativity, storytelling, and the quiet practice of being present.
About Pat:
Pat Daily is a polymath, serial entrepreneur, gamer, and the author of the Spark Chronicles, a near-future science fiction series. Pat began his professional career as an engineer and Air Force test pilot.
After leaving the military, Pat worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center on both the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs before launching his first company. He works globally as a flight test, human performance, and safety consultant.
When not writing or bringing new airplane designs to life, Pat can be found gaming. He is a fan of role-playing games – particularly open worlds with engaging storylines where actions have consequences. Pat and his wife live in Houston. They love spending time with their daughters and their families.
